Depending on what characters you are looking for, there are many in the discount comics sections of not only the stores but on the internet. The prices online can go as low as $0.74 per issue. The discount prices usually come with a disclaimer or limiting the amount you can purchase.
Personally my favorite discount comics that I find are at the local comic book store. Downtown in a very poor section, there is this little store. The owner is a comic book fanatic. He is so cool. He knows everything about almost every comic book ever made. It has become his life. But that is a different story.
I like his organization on how he did it. All the DC comics in one area while Marvel in another. The better kept ones are in plastic sleeves but all of them are in alphabetical order by character. My favorite is Conan the Barbarian. I use the excuse that the art work is great. But I admit I read them. The art work is great and I have drawn many of the panels, but I really like the story lines.
The prices at his store are as low as $0.10 while there are a few at $49.99. I pay on average about $2.00 per copy. I read them, draw the pics I really like then exchange them. He gives me $1.50 per comic I have purchase when I return them. That is usual, he has to make a living somehow and $0.50 to read a comic book is still cheaper than buying them new.
There is a discount comic rack in the store where all of them are below $0.25. Some have pages missing and are in really bad shape, but the poorer kids still buy them. Once in awhile I give him $5.00 and take a stack to the kids in the projects. That is only half a block away. These are the kids that really enjoy the discount comics. It’s a small price to bring joy to a child.
