Physical Aspects of Salsa Dancing
So before I tell you exactly what to wear, you should know exactly what is involved in salsa dancing, physically that is. Salsa, like any other kind of dancing, is a physically demanding activity, so it is important that your clothing is able to meet the challenges and requirements needed if you want to be able to make the most of your evening and not be limited in what you can and cannot do. Here are some of the things you will be doing that you should be prepared for:
- You will be moving a LOT unless you plan to spend most of your time sitting down on the side or hanging out talking
-You will be getting hot from moving around and the room temperature will probably increase as the evening progresses due to a build up of everyone’s body heat, places with low ceiling will get very hot, very fast, so keep that in mind
-You may sweat a little (or a lot) and possibly get red-faced (depending on the intensity of your dancing) from moving around
-Your partner will be touching your back while you dance and trust me when I say that sweaty, wet shirts feel REALLY gross
-You will be in close physical proximity to the opposite gender, as in less than a foot from each other unless you dance spaced very wide apart
-You will be spinning around and lifting your arms above your head, so any underarm sweat stains/issues will be seen every time you lift your arm(s) to turn around
-You will be standing on your feet while dancing, so your shoes should be very comfortable
-You may get stepped on or step on someone else while dancing which can end up hurting a lot, leaving you with a bruise, chipping your pedicure, and/or ripping your pantyhouse. Yes, it is annoying/painful/frustrating, but is unfortunately one of the hazards of dancing
-You will be holding hands with someone and have your hand(s) and/or arm(s) grabbed, so watch out for rings, bracelets, watches, and other jewelry that can cut/hurt you and/or get caught on clothingHow to Dress to Deal with the Heat, Quick Overview
